Adult Ministries

Couples’ Ministry Events Volunteer

Responsibilities:

  • Volunteer for events, ticket sales, etc. as needed
  • Ticket sales take place on Sundays after first and second service

Time Commitment:

  • 30 minutes at ticket booth
  • Event times vary

Couples' Ministry: Marriage Enrichment Table Leader

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and facilitate group discussion
  • Follow up with phone calls, email, etc to stay in touch with individuals at table

Time Commitment:

  • Wednesday nights
  • Time necessary to make follow-up phone calls, emails

Couples' Ministry: Certified Marriage Mentors

Responsibilities:

  • Commitment to meet with new couple multiple times in person
  • Establish connection through phone, email, etc.
  • Other responsibilities depend on needs of new couple's relationship

Get Started:

Midweek

We have so many opportunities for you to serve in Midweek! From Classes to Bible Studies to special events, there's a unique need waiting for your help.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and facilitate discussion
  • Coordinate schedules
  • Greet people and direct them toward their destinations
  • Have a heart for helping people learn about God and grow in their faith

Time Commitment:

  • Quarter commitment on Sunday mornings or Wednesday evenings plus quarter information meeting.

Facilities Volunteer

Responsibilities:

  • Work alongside the facilities team in upgrading and maintaining the facilities grounds. This can be done by helping with landscaping, shopping for parts, cleaning, storing or other areas of need.

Time Requirements:

  • Flexible

Orphan Care

Hands of Hope is Calvary’s Orphan Care Network.
 
Responsibilities:

  • Take part in Safe Families
  • Provide encouragement and/or resources to adoptive or foster families

Getting Started:

  • Attend a Safe Families Workshop and consider how you can become involved
  • Attend a FAME (Foster and Adoptive Mother’s Encouragement Group) Monthly Meeting

Prayer Ministry

Opportunities in the Prayer Room:

  • Weekly Prayer Meeting (Saturdays, 4 p.m.)
  • Service Intercession (Wednesdays, 7:30 p.m.; Sundays, 9 a.m.)
  • Men's Prayer Meeting (Mondays, 5 a.m.)
  • Women's Prayer Meeting
    • First Saturday of each month, 7 a.m.
    • Third Monday of each month, 7 p.m.

Prayer & Visitation Team

Responsibilities

  • Call and visit those who are unable to come to Calvary and those who are in need of fellowship and support
  • Call and visit the same people each week for fellowship and prayer
  • Call those who would like special prayer for a critical moment in their lives
  • Email a report each week on your interactions

Opportunities

  • The calling and visits are done weekly whenever your schedule allows

Training

  • There will be a training meeting to outline specifics, as well as an observational period alongside a pastor during a visit.

Pro-Life Ministry

Join our team as we prepare to stand up and pray for social concerns and raise awareness for local Issues. 

Responsibilities:

  • Inform our community of legislation that affects families and individuals here in Illinois

Opportunities:

  • Pro-life concerns: serving/praying at the Planned Parenthood building in Aurora

Media Ministry

Live Production

Responsibilities:

  • Serve on the live production team during weekend (or Wednesday) services
  • Positions include camera operator, director, slide operator and sound recorder

Time requirement:

  • 1 to 2 weekends per month, 2 to 3 services per weekend
  • 1 hour before service, 10 minutes after service

Getting started:

  • Spend 1-2 weekends shadowing a current volunteer and practicing during rehearsals (depending on position)
  • Implemented as independent operator as ability is assessed

Photographer

Responsibilities:
  • Photograph Sunday services and assigned events 
  • Own digital camera (preferably DSLR)
  • Intermediate or advanced knowledge of photography

Time requirement:

  • 1-2 services or events per month
  • Based upon availability

Getting started

  • Training during Sunday services with experienced photographer
  • Given lower priority events to assess ability
  • Gradually sent to higher priority events

Videographer

Responsibilities:
  • Capture congregant interactions during and after service as well as special events
  • Own a DSLR capable of shooting full HD video
  • Intermediate or advanced knowledge of videography and an eye for candid interactions

Time requirement:

  • One service or event per month
  • Based upon availability

Getting started

  • Start shooting Sunday services with an experienced volunteer
  • Gradually sent to higher priority events

Web Church Moderator

Responsibilities:

  • Engage people who express a desire for prayer in the chat and pray for them via the main chat
  • Engage people who have questions about announcements, sermon points or have a general positive comment about the church service

Time Requirement:

  • Sundays, 10 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
  • One to two weekends each month
  • Optional to moderate off property

Getting started:

  • Attend trainings to learn the system and understand how to interact with online visitors
  • Gain an understanding of Calvary opportunities that online visitors can be referred to (includes prayer, classes, groups, etc.)

Weekend Sales Representative

Responsibilities:
  • Help sell products at assigned booth after weekend services
  • Various needs include Calvary merchandise sales, recorded media sales, and other needs as they arise

Time requirement:

  • 10 minutes before services ends for about 30-45 minutes total
  • Opportunities after any of the three weekend services
  • Based upon need 

Guest Services

Greeter

Responsibilities: 

  • Smile and greet people 
  • Be familiar with building layout and events that are happening at Calvary
  • Help enforce building policies 

Positions: 

  • Zone Greeter: Greet/engage people as they enter the church, help new families navigate around the campus, support Guest Service stations
  • Information Booth Greeter: Have knowledge of church activities, classes, church floor plan and printed tools that are available to guests
  • Entrance Greeter: Greet/welcome guests with a handshake or a smile as they arrive, direct new families to Guest Welcome Center, hand guests a weekly bulletin
  • Auditorium Entrance Greeter: Greet/welcome guests as they enter the Auditorium, hand guests a weekly bulletin
  • Outdoor Greeter: Assist guests before entering the building near dedicated parking areas (handicapped and visitor parking)
  • Special Events Greeter: Assist with special events

Time Commitment:

  • Two times/month for 45 minutes

Parking: Crossing Guard

Responsibilities:

  • Help to ensure a safe and efficient flow of vehicle and pedestrian traffic within the church parking lots
  • Direct flow of vehicles within parking lot and help pedestrians safely across the parking lot walkways

Time Commitment:

  • Sundays, 10 to 11 a.m. or 12 to 12:30 p.m.

M.E.R.T. Dispatcher

Responsibilities:

  • Have knowledge of Calvary’s emergency protocol
  • Able to stay cool under emergency situations

Time requirement: 

  • Once monthly for 2 hours 
  • Arrive 20 minutes prior to service and stay 10 minutes after service

Getting started:

  • Learn the radio system, phone system and monitor system

M.E.R.T. Medic

Responsibilities:

  • Carry emergency phone
  • Have knowledge of Calvary’s emergency protocol
  • Certified in CPR/AED/First Aid (training available)

Time requirement:

  • Once per month for 2 hours
  • Arrive 20 minutes prior to service and stay 10 minutes after service

M.E.R.T. Equipment Inspector

Responsibilities:

  • Check contents of medical bags and electronic equipment for restocking needs
  • Can pay attention to detail

Time requirement:

  • Once per month for 30 minutes

M.E.R.T. Connection Team

Responsibilities:

  • Call people to fill slots
  • Have internet access and people skills
  • Contact team members about needs, prayer requests, problems, ideas, etc.

Time requirement:

  • As needed each week for 1 hour

M.E.R.T. Prayer Cover Assistant

Responsibilities:

  • Lead group prayer with medical team members prior to service
  • Pray for medical patients as needed
  • Is spiritually mature
  • Have heart for prayer

Time requirement:

  • Weekly during service
  • 10 minutes before and during service as needed

Security

Qualifications:

  • Committed to a Christian lifestyle based upon biblical principles
  • Able to stay calm in crisis situations
  • Can communicate well with people
  • Able to follow instructions

Responsibilities:

  • Keep watchful eye over the congregation, the pastor on stage and the building
  • Help to create a friendly atmosphere throughout the building by answering questions

Time requirement:

  • 2 to 3 services per month for two hours/service

Usher

Qualifications:

  • Committed Christian of good character
  • Committed to Calvary Church
  • Have spirit of teamwork and cooperation
  • Willing to serve with a Christ-like spirit

Responsibilities:

  • Pass the plates (taking the offering)
  • Handle disturbances in the auditorium
  • Distribute printed material
  • Help with Communion
  • Create a friendly, welcoming environment in the Auditorium
  • Help people find their seats

Time requirement:

  • Three services per month
  • Choose from: Sunday 9 a.m. service, Sunday 11 a.m. service, Wednesday 7 p.m. service

Guest Welcome Center

Responsibilities:

  • Greets those who come to the Guest Welcome Center on Sundays
  • Familiar with building layout, location of classes, informational materials
  • Up-to-date on all current church activities
  • Attends monthly Newcomer’s Brunch & Lunch and serve or host a table as needed

Time requirement:

  • Two Saturdays per month for 20 minutes before and after service

Connections

Small Groups

Purpose: 

  • Connect people into the life of Calvary

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate discussion of a group of people at home, church or a public location
  • Keep an ongoing relationship and care with the group of people in your small group
  • Communicate attendance, needs, etc. with small group office

Getting Started:

  • Complete small group leader application

Section Host & Section Captain

Responsibilities:

  • Know People: Make connections and get to know people in your section. Learn their name and their story.
  • Grow People: Help others take steps toward spiritual growth.

Time requirement:

  • 15 minutes before the service you attend

Connections Volunteer

Assist our Connection Team on holidays and special events. 

Responsibilities:

  • Helping us prepare and set-up for Easter services, Christmas services and all special events.  
  • Contacting guests and regular attenders after holidays and special events.

Correctional Ministry

Correctional Ministry exists to serve as a catalyst in enlisting, training and supporting believers from local churches to reach out to people behind bars with the transforming power of the gospel and practical expressions of God's love.

Feed My Starving Children

Join us in partnering with FMSC to help pack and sort food at FMSC's local facility in Aurora.

Food & Clothing Pantry

Calvary's Outreach and Evangelism Ministry is committed to extending care to people in the Chicago land area who are in need through our Food & Clothing Pantry.

Food Pantry Registration

Responsibilities:
  • Welcome guests and process them for their weekly visit
  • Through our Arena database, keep track of their attendance 
  • Update address, contact info and other important personal information
  • Help guests understand what to expect while they visit the pantry
  • Give important information to them about Calvary Church

Food Pantry Loaders and Unloaders

Responsibilities:
  • Assist with receiving food deliveries
  • Assist guests with loading food boxes to their car

Food Pantry Sorters

Responsibilities:
  • Organize donated items in bins
  • Recycle items not suitable for use

Requirements:

  • High level of integrity

Food Pantry Child Care Help

Responsibilities:
  • Interact with children (ages 0 – 12)
  • Implement safe drop off and pick up practices
  • Supervise children’s activities
  • Maintain child safety
  • Maintain a safe and hygienic learning environment
Requirements:
  • Must attend all training and developmental meetings
  • One year experience working with children (ages 0 – 12)
  • MUST complete background check
  • Must be able to physically active and be able to lift and move 25 lbs
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus 
  • Natural warm personality with a sensitivity to children’s needs
  • Understanding of child development
 
Available Shifts:

Food Pantry Prayer Team Members

Responsibilities:

  • Pray with Food Pantry Clients 
  • Discuss hardships an life events with clients
  • Share your testimony with clients
  • Give clients info and resources that we provide based on their needs

Requirements:

  • Have to have attended our church for at least 6 months
  • Attend Prayer Team meetings when announced
  • Must be a mature Christian with a good prayer life
  • Prayer leader experience is helpful
  • Bilingual would be very beneficial

  • Tuesdays 5:30 p.m.—7:30p.m.

Food/Clothing Pick Up

Responsibilities:

  • Help us pick up food from Northern Illinois Food Bank and local grocery stores
  • Help us deliver clothes to Benton Street Church

Requirements:

  • Lifting of up to 40 lbs.
  • Valid drivers license and driver's application (internal form)

Furniture Restoration

We are looking for artistic and handy people to help restore furniture which we will then sell and apply proceeds to our food and clothing pantry.

Grant Writers

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare proposals and grant applications
  • Researching, identifying, developing and responding to public and private grant opportunities
  • Working with Calvary’s Director to solidify any information that needs to be given for grant opportunities 

Hesed House Outreach

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and serve food
  • Build relationships with guests

Deaf Ministry

Our ministry team is devoted to ministering to our community of believers who are deaf through ASL conversation. 

Responsibilities:

  • Willing to interact with deaf guests
  • Conversant in ASL
  • Create welcoming environment for guests
  • People-friendly, caring and reliable
  • Familiar with Calvary's building layout and upcoming events
  • Assist with special events

Time Commitment:

  • 2 hours weekly (9 a.m. service on Sundays)

Music & Fine Arts

Choir

Responsibilities:

  • Attend rehearsal on Wednesdays
  • Participate in both Sunday morning services
  • Participate in Saturday night service when needed
  • Participate in special seasonal productions

Time requirement:

  • 3 to 4 weekends per month, 2 to 3 services per weekend

Getting started:

Easter Drama

Responsibilities:

  • Speaking and non-speaking acting roles
  • Main opportunities are during seasonal productions

Time requirement:

Fine Arts Coach

Responsibilities:

  • Coach young people (grades 6-12) in the following creative arts:
    • Vocal
    • Instrumental
    • Writing
    • Art
    • Drama
    • Dance
    • Communication

The goal is to not only prepare them to compete in the District Fine Arts Festival, but more importantly, pour into the youth here at Calvary, and raise them up in their God-given gifts.

Time Requirement:

  • Once a week, Sunday afternoons.

Set Construction

Responsibilities:

  • Provide hands-on help with building production sets and other stage construction projects
  • Skilled and unskilled workers welcome

Worship Instrumentalists & Worship Vocalists

Responsibilities:

  • Instruments needed: piano (keyboard), bass, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, percussion, organ/synth
    • Brass and woodwind players are invited to play in Calvary’s main services on an as-needed basis. Concert orchestras are often organized for special occasions such as Christmas, July 4th and Easter
  • Participate in Wednesday evenings and/or weekend services
  • Rehearse on Wednesday nights and/or Saturdays (depending on assignment)
  • Players scheduled on a monthly rotation

Time Requirement:

  • 2 to 4 weekends per month
  • 2 to 4 Wednesdays per month

Worship Team

Responsibilities

  • Instrumentalist: Trained musician (6th grade and older) who can help play instruments for our kids' worship experience
  • Singer: High-energy singer who can help lead kids in their worship experience through singing and dancing

Special Needs Ministry

Room Assistant

  • Has a heart for children, and is eager to share the gospel with kids with special needs.

Main Event Volunteer

July 15-19, kindergarteners through 5th graders will travel to Narnia where they will join Lucy, Edmond, Susan and Peter in their quest to find God’s destiny for their lives. We need 500 volunteers to make this event a success!

Main Event Serving Opportunities:
Drama

  • For those interested in working with sets, props, makeup, costumes, acting or any other part of the Drama experience. 

Support Staff

  • Security, nurses, greeters, check-in team, parking assistants, snack 

Counselors

  • Lead a small group of kids with another counselor as they journey through the Main Event experience.

Jr. High Ministry

Sunday Ministry Team

Being part of our Sunday Ministry Team is a great opportunity for you to personally help connect students to NXTjhi. New students are walking in our doors each week and need help checking in, finding a Table Leader to sit with and finding details about all of our events. Join our welcome, visitor, greeter or service team. 

Time requirement:

  • 2.5 hours weekly
  • Monthly leadership lunch

Getting started:

  • Visit a junior high service and shadow a leader
  • Fill out a background check and meet with a staff person

Wednesday Ministry Team

Wednesday night services are a great opportunity to invest into the lives of our junior high students. We have multiple ways to serve. We want our students to have the best experience from the moment they step in the door to the time they leave. Join our welcome, visitor, greeter or service team. 

Responsibilities:

  • Help students to grow in a deeper relationship with God and each other through prayer with students
  • Engage with students during pre-service, worship and message

Time requirement:

  • 2 hours weekly

Getting started:

  • Visit a junior high service and shadow a leader
  • Fill out a background check and meet with a staff person

Sunday Table Leader

Being a Table Leader at NXTjhi is definitely one of the highlights of our ministry. You will get the opportunity to connect with students through interactive games, worship and discussion every week. 

Responsibilities:

  • As a table leader, you will meet with a small group of middle school students every week
  • Help students to grow in a deeper relationship with God and each other through discussion, worship and prayer

Time requirement:

  • 2.5 hours weekly
  • Monthly leadership lunch

Getting started:

  • Visit a junior high service
  • Fill out a background check and meet with a staff person

Drivers

Responsibilities:

  • Drive for various day and evening events throughout the year

  • Varies by event

High School Ministry

Sunday Ministry Team

Responsibilities

  • Set-up/Clean-up Team: prepare the high school room for Sunday morning services
  • Welcome Team: greet students/parents and help them get into service on time

Time requirement:

  • 1 to 2 hours weekly

  • Meet with NXT staff for interview
  • Shadow a support staff member for 2 weeks

Wednesday Ministry Team

Opportunities:

  • Support Staff: Check-in Team, Welcome Team, Usher Team Coordinator, 

Time Commitment:

  • 2.5 hours weekly
  • Monthly leaders’ meetings

Getting Started:

  • Complete/submit leadership application
  • Meet with NXT staff for interview
  • Shadow a support staff member for 2 weeks

Sunday Table Leader

Responsibilities:

  • Lead small group discussions and build friendships with students

Time requirement:

  • 2 hours weekly
  • Weekly follow-up with students
  • Monthly two-hour leaders’ meeting

Getting started:

  • Complete/submit leadership application
  • Meet with NXT staff for interview
  • Observe at a different table for 3 weeks

Bus Driver

Responsibilities:

  • Drive for various day and evening events throughout the year

Time requirement:

  • Varies by event

Getting started:

  • CDL airbrake and P-endorsement required for driving buses
  • Fill out a background check

College & Young Professionals

Greeters/Ushers

Responsibilities:
  • Greeters are stationed throughout lobbies and entrances and provide a warm welcome to members and visitors during before worship service
  • Ushers assist with seating, receiving tithes and offering, serving communion and responding to other needs of the service
Time Requirement:
  • Approximately 1 hour weekly

If interested:

  • come to our pre-service huddle at 4:25 p.m.

Prayer Team

Responsibilities:
  • Pray for the needs of members and visitors during services
  • May be called upon during or after worship service to pray one-on-one with individuals
Time Requirement:
  • 15 minutes each Sunday

Connections

Responsibilities:
  • Get to know and help grow the people in their sections
Time Requirement:
  • Minimum of 15 minutes each Sunday

Tech Team

Responsibilities:
  • Support the worship service with live production including sound, lighting, visuals and other engineering/technology areas that relate to stage design and audience experience
Time Requirement:
  • 1 hour each Sunday

Small Group Host

Responsibilities:

  • Hosts small group attendees from VOX College Group
  • Has an available space in house for both eating and fellowship during the meeting (not expected to provide food)

Time requirement:

  • Every two weeks for two hours

Set-up/Clean-up Team

Responsibilities:

  • Set up and clean up rooms, tables, chairs and other items used for services and special events

Time requirement:

  • 2 to 3 hours each month

Getting started

  • Observe/assist set-up and clean-up at a monthly VOX event

Calvary Leadership College
