Children

NXT Kids is dedicated to partnering with parents in order to raise kids who know God and His plan for their life.

Weekend services are designed to usher children into a personal and corporate encounter with God. Midweek small groups create a process of growth that continually measures children’s abilities to connect and worship, while also teaching them what it means to serve. Our commitment is to equip kids to live out their faith through a life of service.

If you are planning to visit us for the first time, you can download the NXT Kids visitor information form and bring it with you. Please complete one form per family.

Classes

KSG (Kids Small Groups)
7 to 8:30 p.m.

KSG is a great chance for kids to get to know their peers and learn more about God. Our key word for KSG is "deeper". We desire to help kids grow deeper in three things:

  1. Deeper in worship
  2. Deeper in relationship with God
  3. Deeper in relationship with peers

Students in Kindergarten - Grade 5 can choose to participate in any one of the small groups we offer.

Royal Rangers is a discipleship class for boys in Kindergarten - 5th grade. Classes meet every Wednesday evening during the school year from 7-8:30 pm. Royal Rangers focuses on Christ-like character formation and servant leadership development for boys in a relational and fun environment! The mission is to evangelize, equip and empower the next generation of Christ-like men into becoming life-long servant leaders. Classes begin August 16, 2017 and end May 2018. REGISTER NOW. Questions? Please email us.

Missionettes is a discipleship class for girls in Kindergarten - 5th grade. Classes meet every Wednesday evening during the school year from 7-8:30 pm. Missionettes provides grade-level activities to challenge girls in their relationship with God, participation in church and missions, the Bible, friends, family and more! Each week, girls participate in Bible stories, role-playing, fun, fellowship and spiritual growth. Classes begin August 16, 2017 and end May 2018. REGISTER NOW. Questions? Please email us.

Blast is a discipleship program for both boys and girls in grades 2-5. Wednesday night Blast services during the school year offer a unique opportunity for leaders to personally impact kids. The curriculum is focused on intense discipleship. When leaders share personal experiences, wisdom and their love for Jesus, we find that kids grow in their own faith, as well. Students enjoy large group games, biblical teaching, small group discussion, classroom projects and occasional opportunities to serve. Classes begin August 16, 2017 and end May 2018. No registration fee or preregistration required. Questions? Please email us.

Junior Bible Quiz (JBQ)
9 a.m. Room 312

Junior Bible Quiz (JBQ) is a discipleship ministry for families where students have fun learning more about God through exciting Bible facts and scripture memorization! This group meets on Sundays at 9 a.m. in Room 312. Children who are in grades 1–6 may participate in this exciting activity. In JBQ, kids memorize the 576 questions and answers in the Bible Fact Pack, then they compete with other church teams in quizzing. If you are interested in JBQ, please contact the Papendicks at (630) 653-1132.

His Kids
11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

On Sunday mornings during the 11 a.m. service, children with special needs meet in Noah's Park. This class provides a comforting and loving place for children age 4–13 who have difficulty attending a regular children’s program. If you or someone you know has a child who could benefit from this class, or if you are interested in joining this ministry team, please contact us.

Homeschool Ministry: Impressions
8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Attention homeschooling families of Calvary Church! We invite you to join us for Impressions, a homeschool enrichment ministry that includes P.E., Art, and Apologetics/Bible classes. Classes begin September 2017 and meet the 1st & 3rd Friday of every month, through May 2018. Questions? Would you like to participate? Please email us or call (630) 596-6115.

Water Baptism Service
Wednesday, May 30
7-8:30 p.m.
The Sanctuary

Is your child is ready for baptism? Take time to look over the following questions with them. If they don’t understand all the concepts, that doesn’t mean they aren’t qualified for baptism; see how they grow with the encouragement of the 2-week class. Once they've finished both classes, you'll be given the opportunity to ask your child these questions once again to see how they are able to articulate these concepts in their own words. Once they have finished both classes, your child will be approved for baptism at our KSG graduation service.

Questions:
What is sin?

  • Disobeying God.
  • Breaking God’s Law.
  • Making a decision to do those things that are wrong.
  • Look up James 4:17: “Anyone who knows the good he ought to do and doesn’t do it, sins.”

Who has sinned?

  • Everyone.
  • Try to get them to say that means even them. Ask them if they have ever sinned and, if so, how.
  • Look up Romans 3:23: "For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.”

What is the cost of sin?

  • Sin makes us feel unhappy.
  • Sin separates us from God.
  • Sin causes death.
  • Look up Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our LORD.”

Why was Jesus important through this?

  • Jesus is God’s only son, and He lived a perfect life.
  • Jesus died on a cross to pay the penalty for our sin and came alive again in a wonderful way! Jesus lives in heaven today. He listens to your prayers and talks to God about them. He is preparing a place for you in heaven! Jesus is the only way to know God and spend forever in heaven with him!
  • Look up John 14:6: “Jesus answered, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

How do we know we can believe in Jesus?

  • Look up John 3:16: “God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
  • To believe in Jesus means to trust Jesus. This means you believe Jesus is the Son of God and you are trusting Him to save you from your sins and to take control of your life.

Ask Jesus to come into your life to be your savior and LORD!

  • Look up Romans 10:9: “If you confess with your mouth ‘Jesus is LORD’ and believe in your heart God raised Him from the dead you will be saved.”

Why do we get baptized?

  • Baptism shows others you want to live your life for Christ.
  • Baptism is a picture of the death (we are sinners), burial (we go under the water), and resurrection of Jesus (we come out of the water as a dedicated follower of Christ).
  • Baptism is an act of obedience.
  • Look up Matthew 28:19: “So go and make followers of all people in the world. Baptize them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.”

This summer, NXT Kids is taking our kids on a journey to Wonderland, and you’re invited! This week-long experience (July 16-20, 6pm-9pm) will give kindergarteners through 5th graders the opportunity to participate in a professional dramatic experience every day! Kids will travel to Wonderland where they join Alice in her quest to find out who she really is. Along the way, they'll learn valuable lessons about who God says they are and what it means to take on the true identity God has given them.

If you’d like to be one of the 500 people we need to make this a success (from drama to Bible teaching to counselors and more), sign up today! You can stop by our display in the lobby or click on the link below.

What is Main Event?
Main Event is the best week of the summer! In this Kindergarten through 5th grade experience, kids are drawn into Bible teaching through exciting dramas and hands-on activities. Each night launches with an opening session that introduces kids to a Biblical truth that will help them understand who God says they are. Large group worship and teaching gives kids a concept that will be reinforced throughout the night as they travel to various rotations where they experience practical application for the Big Idea. At the end of the night, parents are encouraged to join their kids for the closing session where a dramatic experience brings the Big Idea home in a tangible way for kids. This year, our drama experience joins Alice in her journey to Wonderland as she learns her true identity. Through this whimsical story, kids join Alice in her struggle to fully understand just what her true purpose is and what she was created to do. Our goal is to help kids understand that God made them on purpose, with a purpose! Alice's journey to defeat the Jabberwocky will inspire kids to have the confidence to be whoever God created them to be!

When and where is Main Event?
July 16-20, 2018 (Monday-Friday). 6 - 9 p.m.
Calvary Church (9S200 Route 59, Naperville, IL 60564)

How does Main Event work?
Main Event starts July 16 at 6 p.m. The doors to the building will open at 5 p.m. If you have not registered your child in advance, it is recommended that you show up right when doors open. When you register your child, they are assigned to an age-specific group. Inside their grade group, they are placed into a smaller group of 10 kids with 2 counselors. This smaller group is numbered. You will receive this information in advance when you pre-register.

The doors to the sanctuary will open at 5:30 p.m. Upon entering the sanctuary for the opening session, your child will be ushered to the proper section where people will help them find their group number. This information is printed on your child's name badge and will help assure your child is always in the right group at all times throughout the night.

During the opening session, your child will be presented with a Big Idea for the day. This Big Idea is repeated throughout their Main Event experience no matter what rotation they are in. From the opening session, the Big Idea will come to life for the kids as they go through three different rotations. Each of the three rotations is designed to help kids connect the Big Idea with their daily life as they experience a dramatic Bible teaching, hands-on activities and interactive illustrations during their snack experience.

At the end of the evening, kids join back together in the sanctuary to experience the closing session of the evening. Here, they see a professionally styled drama that helps tie the Big Idea into their daily life. Parents are encouraged to join us for this closing session. A special section of the Sanctuary will be reserved for parents.

How much does it cost?
Early registration is $30 (register by June 10).
Late registration is $40 (register by July 8).
Online registration closes July 8.
Late registration resumes during services July 14-15 (on campus only).
On-sight registration will be offered for $10 a day, or $50 a week.

How does on-sight registration work?
If you missed the opportunity to pre-register your children for Main Event, don't worry! There are two options for on-sight registration:

  1. Daily Registration: In this option, you are able to sign your child up each day. This works great if you are unable to have your child attend the entire week, but still want them to be part of this great experience. Simply bring them to church the night of Main Event and sign them up in the lobby. Please note that all kids signing up daily will be placed in a new group each day; there is no guarantee they will be in the same group each day. If you only sign up for one day, there is an additional $5 t-shirt fee.
  2. Full Week Registration: If you missed the chance to sign up early, but are still able to have your child attend for the entire week, simply sign up at Main Event on Monday in the lobby. They will be placed in the best available group and will remain in this group for the entire week.

Please note there are limited t-shirt quantities for on-sight registration.

Is food provided?
There is a snack rotation each night. All snacks offered during Main Event will be safe to consume for kids with nut allergies. We do not allow snacks to be offered in any of our environments that have nuts or have been made in a facility that processes nuts. However, if your child is allergic to wheat, dairy, soy or any other food products, for their safety, they will receive water, but no food snack for the entire week. Due to the number of various allergies, kids are not allowed to bring food with them to Main Event. Please carefully list your child's food allergies that would prevent them from receiving a snack at Main Event when you register.

How does my child find out what group they are in?
Those who register on-sight will receive their group information when they sign up.

Packets with t-shirts, name badges and final information about Main Event will be available for preregistered students during weekend and mid-week services at the Main Event booth starting July 1. Once you pick up your child's packet, their name badge will have their specified group printed on it.

Can my child choose the peers that are in their group?
One of our NXT Kids values is for kids to connect with God as well as their peers and leaders who will help them build that connection! For that reason, we do not allow kids to pick their groups. We have, however, built intentional steps into Main Event for all kids to connect with others. Whether through small group discussion, traveling buddies in the hallway or intentionally partnering students together during the activity, each counselor receives specific training on how to help kids connect with one another. The goal is for every single child to leave Main Event with a new friend, as well as a stronger relationship with old friends.

Baby Dedications

Baby Dedication is an opportunity to thank God for the precious gift of your child. Dedication is also an opportunity to publicly declare your intentions to raise your child in a Christian home. Finally, dedication at Calvary Church is a family time when parents commit themselves to abiding by biblical principles and raising their children according to God's standards. Not only are you dedicating your child to God, but you are also dedicating yourselves as parents to Christ and the church. You are committing yourselves to maintaining a Christian home in which Christ is honored and the Word of God is held in reverence.

Children who have not yet reached their 5th birthday at the time of the dedication service are welcome to be dedicated.

What about baptism?
Baby Dedication at Calvary does not involve baptism. We believe that baptism is meant to take place at a time when an individual makes a personal decision to follow Christ and is old enough to repent of sin and confess Jesus publicly.

Guidelines

Parents
Baby Dedication is open to parents who can truthfully say, "I will commit myself to raising this child to know the Lord Jesus Christ by loving, disciplining, training and setting a positive, Christ-like example."

Single Parents
Under certain circumstances, single parents are allowed to participate in Baby Dedication. Please contact us and use the information above for an explanation of guidelines. We believe that unmarried parents do not set a Christ-like example by living together. Therefore, unmarried parents will be advised to separate or wait until they are married to dedicate their child. If you have questions regarding these guidelines, please contact Pastor Michael Grove at 630-851-7000.

Membership
Membership at Calvary Church is not required in order to participate in Baby Dedication. We do, however, ask that you attend Calvary Church regularly and consider Calvary Church to be your church home.

Orphan Care

Calvary Church is organizing a network of people who have a heart for children without families. We would like to provide guidance and support as you walk down this incredibly rewarding path. Our hope is that you begin to see the face of Christ in each of these children.

You can become involved in many different ways—from cooking meals for families to opening your home to an orphan. Regardless of how you choose to serve the orphan, we want to help you do it well. We believe that no one should be in this alone.
