This December, Pastor Ross and Calvary Church invite you on a trip to the Holy Land! Together, we’ll dive into Christian history and into the life of Jesus Christ. Journey from Dan to Be’er-Sheba and visit the places where Jesus walked, lived, taught, performed miracles, was crucified, and was raised from the dead. The trip will include a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee, communion at the Garden Tomb and a baptismal service in the Jordan River.

Proposed Itinerary

Day 1 - En Route
Depart from USA to Tel Aviv, Israel. Enjoy a hot dinner served aboard the airplane.

Day 2 - Tel Aviv
From Ben Gurion International Airport, we will tour Old Jaffa (Joppa) by the Mediterranean and see modern Tel Aviv. We’ll have dinner and spend the night at our hotel by the Mediterranean Sea.

Day 3 - To the Galilee
After driving along the famous “Way of the Sea,” we will explore the ruins of the Roman and the Crusader City at Caesarea. We will also see the reconstructed Roman city and Theatre, the walls from the times of the Crusaders and the prison where St. Paul was held he was sent to Rome. (This is also where the first gentile became a Christian.) Later, we will pass the remains of the Roman horse racing theater (the Hippodrome), stop at the remains of the Aqueduct, and continue to Mount Carmel for a Falafel Lunch. Last, we will see Acre and then spend dinner and the night at our hotel in Tiberias.

Day 4 - Galilee
In Safed, we’ll stroll the alleys of the Old City, and learn about the Jewish synagogue at the world-famous synagogue of Rabbi Joseph Caro. Next, we’ll visit the Golan Heights, Caesarea Philippi and the Banyas, one of the main sources of the Jordan River, and walk along the beautiful stream of the Dan. On the way to our Hotel, we’ll see Kursi, the site of the swine miracle, then finish the day with a stop at Yardenit, the baptismal site by the Jordan River. Dinner and the night will be spent at our hotel in Tiberias.

Day 5 – Sea of Galilee
We’ll begin the day sailing across the Sea of Galilee to visit the Holy sites around the lake. After that, we’ll visit Capernaum, the “Town of Jesus,” walk along the ruins of this Biblical village, and see the synagogue where Jesus preached near the house of Peter’s mother-in-law. Then, we’ll drive to the Mount of the Beatitudes, where Jesus delivered the Sermon of the Mount, see the beautiful mosaic floor at Tabgha, and visit the newly excavated Biblical Magdala. In Tiberias we’ll see the Tomb of Maimonides, one of the most important Jewish spiritual leaders, along with Beit Shean, the largest Archeological site in Israel. We will also explore the ancient Roman City with the Amphitheater, steam baths and reconstructed streets before coming to the Jordan Valley alongside Jericho and the Mount of Temptations. Lastly, we’ll drive up the hills of Judea to the Holy City Jerusalem where we’ll have dinner at our hotel.

Day 6 – Masada & the Dead Sea
Our first stop will be through the Judean Desert to visit Masada, then off to drive along the Dead Sea and up the Moab Mountains with views of the Judean wilderness. After visiting the Qumran Caves, we’ll a float in the Dead Sea. Dinner will be at Abraham’s Desert Tent with the night ending at our hotel in Jerusalem. 

Day 7 – Jerusalem
We will begin with the panoramic view over the walls and old city at the Mount of Olives, followed by a walk down to the Kidron Valley and into the Garden of Gethsemane. We’ll see the Church of All Nations, and experience hands-on archeology at the Valley Zurim. The City of David holds exciting new excavations, the Wailing Wall, the Pool of Shiloh, and the ancient tunnels to the Davidson Visitors’ Center. We’ll walk along the Via Dolorosa and the Arab Market to the Jewish Quarter and the expertly preserved Burnt House. Our dinner and night will be spent in Jerusalem. (B, L, D)

Day 8 – Bethlehem and Herodian
The day begins with the Herodian Fortress, a man-made mountain created by King Herod. Next, we’ll visit Bethlehem and see the birthplace of Jesus in the Church of Nativity. Dinner will be at hotel in Jerusalem hotel followed by a walk down the famous street of Ben Yehuda where we’ll find a variety of tasty pastries and souvenirs in their shops and coffee houses. (B, D)

Day 9 – Jerusalem (New City)
Our last full day begins with Ein Karem, the birth place of John the Baptist, and continues to Yad Vashem, the Holocaust Memorial. Next, we’ll visit the Israel Museum, the Shrine of the Book (where the Dead Sea Scrolls can be seen), and visit the Model of Jerusalem at the time Jesus was there. Later we’ll see the Bible-land Museum and, if possible, visit the Israeli Parliament building, the Knesset. The day ends with trip to the Mahane Yehuda Market before we enjoy a special farewell dinner at a local restaurant, and spend our last night in Jerusalem. 

Day 10 – Transfer to the Ben Gurion Airport
An early morning drive takes us to Ben Gurion Airport for our flight back to the USA.

Optional Jordan Extension:
Day 10 - Jordan

After breakfast at our hotel in Jerusalem, we will drive to the border and cross into Jordan. There, Kings Highway will take us to Madaba, Mount Nebo (the traditional burial site of Moses), and we’ll see views of Israel from the top of the mountain. Dinner and the hotel will be in Petra. 

Day 11 - Petra
The day begins with a visit to the Red Rose city of Petra that was carved in the canyon walls. After that, we’ll cross into Israel and on to Tel Aviv for dinner and a night in our hotel. 

Day 12 – Back home
An early morning drive takes us to Ben Gurion Airport for our flight back to the USA.

All sites listed in the itinerary will be covered, but the sequence and days may be altered to adjust to religious holidays, special sites closings, air schedules, etc. This tour is not recommended for those who have mobility limitations since it includes walking on uneven terrain.
