Teacher Aide - Before/After School Program (CCS, part time)

The Teacher Aide brings warmth, patience, and understanding to these programs every day, by encouraging children to learn about God, discover their purpose, and make a difference. They are committed to making our school a safe place for all children by creating positive interactions with their team and establishing relationships with our children and families.

They ensure that our programs provide a safe, nurturing Christian environment with engaging activities to stimulate the school-agers attention. This position is a support staff position that will help the Before/After School Program teacher create age-appropriate activities, themes, and devotions, creating daily schedules, updating handbooks, safety guidelines, planning field trips and attending field trips.
 
Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities

Assist the teacher to:
  • Fulfill the mission of Calvary Christian School to help students know God, achieve academic excellence, discover their purpose, and make a difference.
  • Cooperate with the Director and Administrative Team in implementing all policies, procedures, and directives governing the operation of the Kids Club program throughout the school year.  
  • Establish and maintain a developmentally appropriate and excellent environment that supports the growth and development of school-agers.
  • Conduct developmentally appropriate daily routines for children.
  • Turn in written attendance sheets according to the schedule established.
  • Observe, record, and report significant individual and group behavior.
  • Establish a safe and healthy nurturing environment for children.
  • Supervise children by sight and sound at all times.
  • Display teaching excellence for other staff; role model, share professional and technical information.
  • Follow snack schedules and procedures as needed.
  • Maintain clean, attractive, well-ordered classrooms.
  • Maintain regular and accurate attendance records.
  • Follow the Matthew 18 principle in resolving students, parents, and administration conflicts.
  • Attend and participate in scheduled trainings, in-service, faculty, and parent meetings.
  • Know the procedures for dealing with issues of an emergency nature.
  • Inform the Director/Executive Team in a timely manner if unable to fulfill any duty assigned.
  • Ensure children are properly supervised at all times, and schedule sufficient staff to ensure administrative designated student ratios are maintained.
  • Collaborate with the staff to bring purposeful, creative work to the afterschool program as well as to camps.
  • Support afterschool/kids club teachers in effectively delivering content through observation feedback and coaching.
  • Implement appropriate activities in accordance with established program goals and quality standards at Calvary Christian School.
  • Work with various organizations and groups to implement assigned programs such as chess club, coding club, and intramural sports.
  • Assemble supplies, set-up and take-down of equipment, tables, and chairs as needed.
  • Ensures facilities, equipment, and play areas are in clean, safe, and in excellent condition.
  • Supervise a variety of recreation and social events/programs (including community field trips and other camp-related activities and projects)
  • Oversee student discipline as needed.
  • Fill in classrooms as needed.
  • Oversee reception and work as needed.
  • Render routine first aid as necessary.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Miscellaneous:
  • When driving the Calvary bus, adhere to all traffic laws and regulations. When boarding the bus, check that every child is accounted for. When exiting the bus, check if all children have been accounted for.

Education and Experience
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Childhood Education or Development preferred but not required
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience, as documented in three written references.

Relationships
  • The number of people supervised: Before and Afterschool Kids Club Teachers/ Camp Counselors, and Check-In Receptionist.
  • Know all of your students and families by name.
